FAQ about bringing your own device to T-Mobile:

Bringing your phone to T-Mobile is typically the fastest, easiest, and most economical way to join T-Mobile. To bring your own phone, first check if your phone is compatible with the T-Mobile network. Not all phones have the same network hardware, and it may not work well with T-Mobile's network. If your phone is not compatible, we recommend purchasing a new phone from T-Mobile. Second, your phone must be unlocked to switch to T-Mobile. If your phone is locked, you must contact your current carrier and request it be unlocked.

After checking if your phone is compatible, follow these steps:

  1. Purchase a T-Mobile SIM Card and a T-Mobile Plan.
  2. Replace the existing SIM card in your phone with the new T-Mobile SIM Card.
  3. Optional: Request to transfer your phone number to T-Mobile after installing new SIM card.

If you have questions, please call us at 1-877-590-4728, or visit your nearest T-Mobile store.

Most phone numbers can be transferred to T-Mobile, but please check the transfer eligibility of your existing number. After you have installed your new T-Mobile SIM, contact us via 1-877-590-4728, or visit a store, to complete the transfer process. When you contact us, you will need to share the following information with us to complete the transfer request.

  • Previous Carrier Name
  • Previous Carrier Account Number
  • Account Pin Number
  • Phone Number to be Ported In
We recommend backing up your contacts, voicemail, and text messages prior to transferring your number to T-Mobile. During the process, you may have dual service for up to 24 hours, meaning you will be active on both carrier networks. Do not cancel your previous wireless service until you receive a confirmation text message from T-Mobile that the transfer is complete.

SIM stands for Subscriber Identity Module. The SIM card identifies your phone to the network. You will need a T-Mobile SIM card to connect to T-Mobile’s Network.

Yes, the T-Mobile SIM S fits all GSM phones. There are 3 varied sizes that can fit most phones. When you pull out your previous card, you can match it to the T-Mobile one. See video instructions on how to replace your SIM.

Yes, if your device has a cellular radio in it that is compatible with T-Mobile’s network, you can use it. Refer to the device manufacturer’s website for details. If you have questions, take your device to the nearest T-Mobile store and we’ll be happy to help you.
