T-Mobile Video Calling is a feature that's built-in as part of the dialer on some T-Mobile phones, giving you easy access to high-quality video calling.

What is T-Mobile Video Calling

T-Mobile Video Calling provides a streamlined way to communicate with family and friends through high-quality video calling. There's no extra charge to use it, but it does use your high-speed data.

If you're looking for information about third-party video calling apps like Skype or Google Duo, we have some helpful links here. Skype or Google Duo calls cannot be answered with the T-Mobile Video Calling feature.

Since it's built into your phone's dialer, there's no need to download additional apps or sign into a separate account. T-Mobile Video Calling uses Video over LTE (also known as VoLTE) to let you make and receive high-quality video calls. You can make video calls over LTE or Wi-Fi.

How it works

For it to work properly and to receive all the benefits of the service, all phones participating in a video conversation must support T-Mobile Video Calling. The software needed for it to work on your phone is available either out-of-the-box when you purchase your phone or through a software update of your current phone.

When you use Video Calling, make sure that:

  • Both participants are using a T-Mobile Video Calling phone (limited to two participants). If one of the phones moves out of range of the required network, the video will be lost and the call reverts to voice only.
  • If you need help with some of these steps on your phone, visit our Device tutorials select your phone, or use the search bar and enter your phone name.
    • If any participant is connecting by LTE, VoLTE must be enabled.
    • If any participant is connecting through Wi-Fi, then Wi-Fi calling must be enabled.
    • A software upgrade may be required to enable T-Mobile Video Calling on your phone. Not all phone have the software or hardware required for video calling.
  • Video Calling only works with domestic T-Mobile numbers; it doesn't work with international numbers. However, it will work for T-Mobile customers on Wi-Fi in another country.

This feature uses high-speed data. Because of the bandwidth needed to make a video call, once you exceed your high-speed data limit, you won't be able to use T-Mobile Video Calling again until your next billing cycle. If you want, you can always change your service to add more high-speed data. Or, you can switch to Magenta. Or, connect over Wi-Fi and you won't use any of your data.
